Blossom end rot: a dark, sunken, leathery patch at the blossom end of the fruit. It is a calcium TRANSPORT failure driven by irregular watering, not a soil calcium shortage and not a pathogen -- RHS is explicit that it is not corrected by adding calcium. Water evenly and mulch to buffer soil moisture; fruit already affected will not recover, but subsequent fruit sets clean.
