Timing for Adzuki Beans follows soil temperature and frost, not the calendar date. The Global vegetable planting calendar explains the method. To work out where it fits in your beds, sketch your plot in the free Garden Layout Planner.
What the research guides add
Adzuki is a dry-bean crop, which means the number that matters is how long it needs to stay in the ground.
- The plant is erect, 1 to 2 feet high, with yellow flowers followed by clusters of small cylindrical pods. (UF/IFAS Extension)
- Adzuki beans need about 120 days from sowing to the time the seeds and pods are dry. (UF/IFAS Extension)
- They need cool nights for best production but will not tolerate frosts and freezes, so plant during the traditional frost-free period. (UF/IFAS Extension)
- Sow seeds ¾ to 1 inch deep and thin the plants to stand about 2 to 3 inches apart in the row; prepare the soil and plant very much as for green snap beans. (UF/IFAS Extension)
- Young tender pods can be picked as snap beans, but they are very small at that stage. The dry pods split open and scatter the seeds, so harvest after the seeds are ripe but before they shatter. (UF/IFAS Extension)
- The whole plant with dry pods attached can be pulled and stacked in a dry, well-ventilated place; a week or two is usually enough to dry it completely. (UF/IFAS Extension)

How this guide is put together
The growing data on this page — sowing windows, pests, diseases, soil and site requirements — comes from named horticultural sources, listed in References below, checked against international horticultural research and extension sources. An automated pipeline assembles that verified data into the page you're reading: it selects which facts to lead with and builds the surrounding prose and layout. It does not invent a date, a source or a number — where a verified value for a field isn't available, the page leaves it out rather than guessing. A person reviews and publishes each page; nothing goes live unverified.
