Sow indoors April-May, plant out May-June, harvest from late July until frosts -- about three months sowing to harvest. Two seeds per 9cm pot at 20-25°C out of direct sun; germinates in about 10 days, remove the weaker seedling. Direct sowing not recommended. Space at least 35cm apart once hardened off; vigorous climbers reaching about 2.5m tall and 1.5m spread, needing netting or stakes for support. Pick fruit as soon as it is large enough; keeps about ten days refrigerated; remove the tough seeds from mature fruit before eating. Generally robust, but "can suffer from the same viruses as other cucurbits, such as Cucumber Mosaic Virus."
